The wait is finally over, and most of the rumours proved to be true. Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 5s has been unveiled and is showing off a number of compelling features. The latest iteration of the phone has a sleek luxurious look and offers a bevy of improved software, better security and stronger specs. Here are the top seven features of the Apple iPhone 5s.

1. A7 Chip

When it launches, the 5s will be packing a 64-bit A7 chip - the first ever on a smartphone. Apple claims that the new chip is  twice as fast and has 40 times better performance than the original iPhone. Similar to the Nexus 7, the iPhone 5s can run OpenGL ES 3.0 which means more powerful graphics as evidenced by Epic's "Infinity Blade 3" reveal.

2. M7 motion coprocessor

The M7 motion coprocessor is another new addition that works in concert with the A7 chip. The M7's primary function is to collect data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass - freeing up the A7 processor to handle the heavy-duty tasks. The M7 can also be used to create better fitness apps since it will continuously collect motion data, even when the device is asleep.

3. Touch ID

Passcodes days are officially numbered. The much-rumoured, highly-anticipated fingerprint scanner has debuted on the iPhone 5s. It's officially called Touch ID. In addition to unlocking your phone, the feature can also be used to authenticate iTunes purchases. Built into the noticeably larger Home button, Touch ID utilizes a sapphire crystal with a capacitive touch sensor to take an image in 500 ppi resolution and scans sub-epidermal skin layers. Fingerprint information is never stored on iCloud or Apple servers keeping it safe and secure.

4. Upgraded Camera

The iPhone 5s has a new 8-megapixel iSight camera that boasts a larger f/2.2 aperture as well as a bigger sensor with 1.5μ pixels. Apple claims the new enhancements will translate into better pictures in regular and low-light situations. Camera functions such as photo capture and auto-focus will be faster.  The camera will also feature automatic image and video stabilization.

5. True Tone Flash

Unnatural skin tones and over-saturated colours in photos will be a thing of the past thanks to True Tone, the iPhone 5s' new flash technology. True Tone flash utilizes two LED flashes and adjusts for 1,000 colour and intensity combinations to achieve the correct colour balance.

6. Burst Mode/Slo-Mo Modes

In addition to upgraded hardware, the camera has gotten a revamped Burst mode that captures 10 frames per second, automatically choosing the sharpest image of the bunch. There's also Slo-Mo mode where the camera simultaneously records video at 720p at 120fps enabling effects lovers to pick which parts of the video they want to play at normal speeds and which at slo-mo speeds.

7. New Colours

The s must stand for sumptuous. While the dimensions haven't changed from the iPhone 5 (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.3 inches, 3.95 ounces), the iPhone 5 has a captivating new look that sets it apart from previous iterations of iPhones. Instead of boring black and white, the iPhone 5S will be available in anodized aluminium in Silver, Space Grey and Gold. The diamond-cut chamfered edges add a sleek elegance that might draw some to compare it to the HTC One.
