VIDEO: WOODEN SKYSCRAPERS - SUSTAINABLE HOMES OF THE FUTURE?

With the global and urban population growing rapidly, we need to find new ways to build cities and residences more sustainably. Architects can no longer ignore the responsibility they have towards choosing more eco-friendly or sustainable materials. One of these materials is timber or wood. The use of timber as a structural material in tall buildings has a variety of potential benefits; it is a renewable resource, unlike concrete and steel, it has reduced costs, improved construction timescales, increased fire resistance, significant reduction in the weight of buildings, and gives enormous psychological well-being to the inhabitants of cities that comes from being surrounded by wood as compared with concrete. Will wooden skyscrapers be the sustainable homes of the future?
