1. The man who has been eating roadkill for 30 years

New Picture 11

Rat stir fries and owl curries hardly sound like the stuff you would serve your friends for dinner. But surprisingly, Jonathan McGowan's exotic roadkill dishes are a big hit with his guests. The 44-year-old bachelor has lived on a diet of roadkill for the past 30 years to avoid buying meat from the supermarket. He has shunned pre-packaged meats and instead, dined on mice, moles, hedgehogs, pigeons, crows and gulls. The taxidermist from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK, never kills the animals himself but eats only what he finds at the roadside or in the woodlands. Mr. McGowan first got a taste for roadkill at the age of 14 when he cooked a dead adder that he had found. After leaving sixth form college, he lived alone and turned to roadkill to save some money on his weekly food bills. [Source/More information]

2. The man who lost 27 pounds on Twinkie diet

New Picture 12

Want to lose weight without giving up junk food? It may sound too good to be true, but nutrition professor Mark Haub proved you can have your cake and eat it too – by putting himself on a “Snack Cake Diet” and losing 27 pounds in 2 months. Haub, who teaches at Kansas State University, set out to prove that losing weight is simple: it's all about how much you eat, not what you eat. In other words, you can eat whatever you want, but you have to cut calories… After two months of eating the “unhealthy food,” his weight dropped to 174 pounds, and his BMI is now a healthy 24.9. Surprisingly, in addition to his weight loss, his diet seems to have improved his other health stats. In the latest results posted to his Facebook page on Nov. 5, Haub says his “bad” cholesterol, or LDL, dropped 30 points from 153 to 123, while his “good” cholesterol, or HDL, went up from 37 to 46 points. His triglyceride level, another measure of fat, dropped 39 percent. [Source/More information]

3. The woman who has eaten nothing but pizza for 31 years

New Picture 13

It isn't exactly food fit for a queen, but it's good enough for 33-year-old Claire Simmons. Claire loves cheese and tomato pizza so much that she's been eating nothing else for 31 years. Which means she's been eating the stuff since she was about 2 years old. That does sound too young to be eating pizza in the first place, doesn't it?. But it's not that she doesn't want to eat anything else, it's just that she can't. She shudders at the mere mention of other food and will gag if she puts anything other than plain pizza in her mouth.

What Claire suffers from is actually known as Selective Eating Disorder. Experts say she's on the road to killing herself with her diet. But she disagrees. According to Claire, she keeps herself healthy by drinking plenty of water and getting lots of exercise. This doesn't convince her GP however, who says that if she keeps this up, the lack of vitamins and minerals will lead to huge problems in the future, such as a stroke or heart attack. Claire can't help it though, given that she's terrified of eating fruits and vegetables. [Source/More information]

4. The man who is seeking rehab to cure his 42-litre-a-week Diet Coke addiction

New Picture 14

Darren Jones wants to check himself into rehab - to cure a bizarre addiction to Diet Cola. Darren, 38, knocks back 42 litres of the drink every week. Now the 35 stone (490 pound) father of two is vowing to get treatment for his $129 a week habit to get fit again and save his relationship with 33-year-old mother of two, Paula Mullen. Darren, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, said, “I believe what I have is an actual addiction and I start to worry if I'm getting near the end of the bottle. If I can't get in touch with Paula to get me some more I start to panic - it's like a drug or alcohol addiction. I called up Diet Coke to ask them if it's addictive and what I should do and they recommended putting water in it to dilute it, but it would taste horrid and I don't think it would help.” [Source/More information]

5. The teenage girl who is collapsing because of her 15-year-long chicken nugget diet

New Picture 15aNew Picture 15b

Things that happen when you refuse to eat anything but chicken nuggets for 15 years (like seriously, nothing else): You collapse from anaemia. You have swollen veins in your tongue. Shortness of breath. Doctors tell you that you might die if you don't stop. You have a house full of Happy Meal toys. After a being rushed to the hospital struggling to breathe, 17-year-old chicken nugget addict Stacey Irvine admitted, “I'm starting to realize this is really bad for me.” Well, we're glad she finally realized it. 6. The man who ate his 25,000th Big Mac

New Picture 16

For almost four decades, Don Gorske has been eating Big Macs at an obscene and unprecedented rate. In 2011, he reached a new milestone - finishing his 25,000th burger.

Gorske, 59, says he's in good health and that he has the check-ups to prove it. His cholesterol level is low and he was given a clean bill of health during his last physical, despite the fact that he exercises minimally. Gorske eats, on average, two Big Macs a day, and doctors say his good health is primarily a result of his genetics. [Source/More information]

7. The girl who eats only Tic Tacs

New Picture 17

Meet Natalie Cooper, a 17-year-old teenager who has a mysterious illness that makes her sick every time she eats anything. Well, almost anything. She can eat one thing that doesn't make her sick: Tic Tac mints!

For reasons that doctors are unable to explain, Tic Tacs are the only thing she can stomach, meaning she has to get the rest of her sustenance from a specially formulated feeding tube. [Source/More information]

8. The man who lost 140 pounds on baked bean diet

New Picture 18

After he was warned he was at risk for bowel cancer, Neil King of Essex England took action. No, he didn't add fruits and vegetables to his diet, and there's no mention of a regular exercise routine. Instead, he started eating baked beans, six cans a day to be exact.

He eats them with rice at lunch and with a potato for dinner. The "diet" has helped him lose 140 pounds. There's nothing special about beans though, except for the fact that they are low in fat and high in fibre. His weight loss likely came from dropping his daily eight pints of lager and meals that included sausage and bacon.

Though no one would ever recommend a diet with such restrictions, some weight loss experts do say that in the beginning stages of weight loss, dieters do better when they limit their choices. The fact that he gave himself so few options may be what helped King take the weight off. [Source | More information]
