If you are going to buy property with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean or the Indian Ocean, you'll most likely want to maximize the time you spend gawking at your purchase. So naturally, your swimming pool should have an ocean view.

There are a range of pools in our database, many of which have spectacular views. These can be small grotto-like spaces, or expansive infinity pools that seem to flow out into the ocean itself. Either way, we've rounded up some of our favourite pools with a view, from India to Montenegro. Enjoy, and please remember to shower before jumping in.

1. House on Cliffside by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos - Alicante, Spain

New Picture 44

House on Cliffside by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos is a monolithic, stone-anchored structure that generates a horizontal platform where the house itself is located. Beneath the house, the swimming-pool resides on a lower level, bringing us closer to the sea in its own quiet cove. The contrast between the bright blue pool and stark, white house creates dramatic effect.

2. Casa de La Flora by Boonlert Deeyuen and VaSLab - Phang-nga, Thailand

New Picture 45

Casa de La Flora by Boonlert Deeyuen and VaSLab is a resort that consists of a series of pool villas with expansive ocean views. Bold architecture yields to nature, hence its botanical name ‘flora’. Each concrete and wood villa reflects a floral form emerging from the ground.

3. Jardin del Sol House by Corona, Amaral + Asociados - Tacoronte, Spain

New Picture 46

At the edge of a dramatic cliff, the Jardin del Sol House by Corona, Amaral + Asociados overlooks a black sand beach with a spectacular view of the Teide and the northern coast of Tenerife. Views are enjoyed from the entire house and in the fitness centre pool water can be seen through a glass wall.

4. Villa Amanzi by Original Vision - Phuket, Thailand

New Picture 47

Cantilevered over a massage 'sala', or open pavilion, the swimming pool at the Villa Amanzi (designed by Original Vision) completes the overlapping composition. It is a stunning focal point that draws the eye to the view and instils a sense of calmness and balance through the energy of the architecture.

5. St Leon 10 by SAOTA - Capetown, South Africa

New Picture 48

Situated along an impressive coastline, St Leon 10 by SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) allows for unprecedented views towards the 12 Apostle Mountains, Clifton Beaches and Robben Island.

6. Plane House by K Studio - Sporades, Greece

New Picture 49

This pool at the Plane House by K Studio is strategically placed to enjoy the view but also to create a cooling breeze over the terrace and into the house as the north wind flows uphill and over its surface. Photovoltaic panels power the pool mechanics and grey-water is recycled and used for irrigation, plumbing and fire extinguishing.

7. Cove 6 - Pezula Knysna by SAOTA - Knysna, South Africa

New Picture 50

While Cove 6 – Pezula Knysna by SAOTA is nestled comfortably into the natural contours of the site, cantilevered structures such as the pool and elevated timber decks protrude beyond the building lines, allowing indigenous planting to grow below.

8. Lido Mar by Studio RHE - Tivat, Montenegro

New Picture 51

New Picture 52

Perched 200 ft. above an expansive stretch of green along the Arabian Sea coast, the panoramic views were constantly in the minds of the designers.
