The folks at EveryCarListed.com bring us a second installment of fantastic morphing GIFs, showing how nine different cars made the transition from show cars to production cars. Some barely changed, others are nearly unrecognizable.
1. Alfa Romeo 4C
At first glance, this GIF looks like it's going backwards - the production car's wheels are bigger, and the proportions somehow more exaggerated, than the concept car that debuted in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show. Overall, though, the 4C changed very little from concept to production car.
2. Porsche Boxster
The Porsche Boxster concept that debuted at the 1993 Detroit Auto Show was jarringly different from the marque's offerings at the time. When the car went into production in 1996, some details changed - like the air intakes, which moved from the lower edge of the body to roughly door-handle height. But the general proportions and overall style stayed the same.
3. Dodge Challenger
Here's another one that looked very similar in concept and production form. The 2006 Detroit Auto Show concept didn't have far to go to become the Challenger that debuted in 2008. Of course, the real update came in 2015, with the 707-hp Hellcat.
4. Land Rover LRX Concept / Range Rover Evoque
All hail Land Rover, willing to make the almost painfully stylish LRX concept into a nearly-identical production Range Rover Evoque, and stick with a two-door option in a world convinced that you need four doors or more. Extra kudos for the hilarious drop-top version coming this year.
5. Volkswagen IROC Concept / VW Scirocco
Sure, the IROC concept, and the Scirocco that spawned from it, are both a far cry from the first- and second-generation Scirocco. But the spirit of a stylish three-door built on economy car underpinnings is still there in full force. And the concept car design from 2006 still looks fresh and new a decade later.
6. Kia Soul
How much could a two-box micro-ute change from concept to production? Not very much. The only things Kia had to alter were the too-large-for-production wheels and a few lighting details. Oh, and they added a B-pillar, the wimps.
7. Isuzu VehiCROSS
There is literally nothing we can say about the VehiCROSS other than that it is the perfect car and it came too soon for an unready mankind to fully appreciate its greatness.
8. Mini ACV30 Concept / Mini Cooper
Whoa, talk about a jump! The Mini ACV30 Concept was penned in 1997 (partly by Frank Stephenson, now head designer at McLaren), when the original Mini was still in production in the U.K., and it kept a lot of design cues from Sir Alec Issigonis's 1959 original. Compare it to the rounder, smoother, BMW-built Mini Cooper that debuted in 2001, which looks more like a distant cousin than a direct descendent.
9. Bugatti Veyron
The EB 18/4 was actually the fourth Bugatti concept car Volkswagen produced, unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1999. Styling-wise, it was a pretty direct preview of the eventual Veyron, though the car lost two cylinders in the transition from concept car to world's fastest production car.
