Have anyone ever seen two of nature's most spectacular phenomena - rainbow and lightning - appearing or even photographed together at one time? Or bolts of lightning striking through a rainbow?
We all know lightning generally occurs during storms, while rainbows tend to form after the rain has stopped, making the simultaneous appearance of both relatively rare. Such display has occurred before, for example in Arkansas, USA, in 2006 (see top image), but it’s still an uncommon and unusual alliance.
Yet this simultaneous appearance was what precisely occurred in the evening of 13 May 2012 in Haikou City, China. The stunning scene was captured by a lucky Chinese photographer during a rainstorm in the city.
