Having a razor-sharp display, quad-core processor and huge selection of apps won’t matter much if your tablet dies in the middle of streaming an episode of “Game of Thrones” or posting a selfie to Facebook. Luckily, you’ll never have to worry about that with any of these slates. With the kind of battery life that makes the competition look positively anaemic, these bad boys will last through a cross-country flight and longer. These are the longest lasting tablets on the market.

1. Amazon Kindle Fire HDX (8.9-inch)

Amazon's Kindle Fire HDX 8.9-inch isn't just an easy way to get access to all of your favourite Amazon content. The slate also packs a gorgeous 2560 x 1600 resolution display, powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and Amazon's slick new Mayday tech support feature. With the press of a button, users get 24/7 access to a real-life support representative, who can access their Kindle and show them how to use its various features. Oh, and did we mention it offers a whopping 13 hours and 42 minutes of battery life?

2. Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8

Lenovo's Yoga Tablet 8 offers a unique chassis designed around a laptop-grade battery pack that gives the slate an impressive 13 hours and 6 minutes of battery life. Outside, you get an 8-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, while inside you'll find a quad-core MediaTek processor and 1GB of RAM. A unique kickstand lets you position the Yoga Tablet in three different use modes including Stand, Tilts and Hold.

3. ASUS Transformer Book T100

ASUS' Transformer Book T100 is a full Windows 8.1 tablet with an included keyboard dock that costs a budget-friendly US$399. More impressive than its price, however, is the fact that it lasts a ridiculous 12 hours and 28 minutes on a single charge. You can thank Intel's power sipping Atom Bay Trail processor for that.

4. Apple iPad Air

New Picture 63

Apple's iPad Air is the lightest full-size tablet on the market. But despite dropping its weight to a scant 1-pound, the slate's battery life is as impressive as every. Over Wi-Fi the Air lasted a solid 11 hours and 51 minutes. What's more, the tablet ran for 10 hours and 47 minutes on Verizon's 4G LTE network. The slate's marathon battery life is all the more impressive given the fact that it features a faster 64-bit A7 processor, making it the speediest iPad ever.

5. Apple iPad mini with Retina display

New Picture 64

Apple's iPad mini finally has a Retina display, and it's just as good as you'd imagined. But what you may not have expected from this iOS 7-powered slate is that it would get a crazy long 11 hours and 6 minutes of battery life over Wi-Fi. Like the iPad Air, the iPad mini with Retina display features Apple's new 64-bit A7 processor, making this one screaming fast slate.

6. Nokia Lumia 2520

Nokia's Lumia 2520 is a dead sexy Windows RT 8.1 tablet you can use for hours on end, without fear of running out of juice. During our testing, the slate and its Snapdragon 800 CPU ran for 10 hours and 26 minutes. Attach its optional Power Keyboard with a built-in battery pack, and the tablet will run for up to 12 hours and 24 minutes.

7. ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7

ASUS' MeMO Pad HD 7 offers a quad-core MediaTek processor, vibrant 1280 x 800 IPS display and sharp 5-megapixel rear camera. ASUS' Android 4.2.1 overlay provides a host of customization options that will keep you occupied for quite some time. And if that wasn't enough, the slate will last a lengthy 9 hours and 40 minutes on a charge. Leave your chargers at home.

8. Microsoft Surface 2

When Microsoft introduced the Surface 2, it promised the follow-up to the original Surface would offer a significant improvement in battery life. And the company certainly kept its promise. With 9 hours and 19 minutes of battery life, the Surface 2 beat out the original Surface by more than an hour. Toss in a powerful Nvidia Tegra 4 processor and gorgeous 1080p display and you've got a quality Windows RT 8.1 tablet.

9. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 offers all of the slick multitasking functionality and unique features that are a staple of all Galaxy devices, but adds a lengthy 8 hours and 39 minutes of battery life. It's Nvidia Tegra 3 processor helps the slate power through your most demanding tasks, while its built-in IR blaster lets you control your TV without ever having to search for the remote again.

10. Google Nexus 7 (2013)

New Picture 69

Google's first Nexus 7 was a crowd pleaser with few flaw. But somehow, the search giant managed to improve on its freshman effort with the new Nexus 7 (2013). Packing a more powerful processor, pure Android operating system and razor-sharp 7-inch, 1920 x 1200 display, the latest Nexus tablet is one of the best small-screen slates you can buy. And with a battery life of 8 hours and 26 minutes, it's also one of the longest lasting.
