China's Three Gorges Dam is the world’s largest hydroelectric dam - and the most notorious. But the story here is not about the dam but its elevator. The 600-foot dam presented an engineering challenge: how to transport ships over it. The solution: the world's largest elevator. The elevator, which was opened on 18 September 2016, is an impressive feat of engineering, weighing 15,500 tons and capable of lifting up to 6.7 million pounds of boats, ships and water. The video below by CCTV+ shows how the elevator carries ships - even giant ones - over the dam.
