Your friends may call it a phablet, but it’s really just your new super-sized smartphone. Whatever you call it, the line between phone and tablet is blurring as users demand larger smartphone screens for surfing the web, watching video and playing games. It all started with the 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note, but manufactures didn’t stop there. Now there are several devices on the market with 5.5-inch or larger display that truly push the limits of our pockets. If you’re ready to ditch your puny handset in favour of a ginormous device, these are the biggest smartphones on earth.

1. Samsung Galaxy Mega (6.3 inches)

If you want to go big but just can't commit to a full 7 inches, the 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Mega might be your ideal size. The Galaxy Mega shares many of the same features as the Galaxy S4, including Air View, WatchOn, S Translator Group Play and numerous advanced camera functions. This Android phablet packs a 1.7-GHz dual-core processor, HD screen and 4G LTE. The Mega weighs a hefty 7 ounces and measures a tall but thin 6.6 x 3.5 x .31 inches.

2. ASUS Fonepad (7 inches)

New Picture 64

At a whopping 7-inches, the 11.2-ounce Fonepad from ASUS is about the same size as the Google Nexus 7 with the added ability to make phone calls. A dual-core Intel Atom processor - unique for an Android device - provides snappy performance along with fairly good battery life. Unfortunately, you can't get the Fonepad in the U.S.

3. ZTE Grand Memo (5.7 inches)

The ZTE Grand Memo is a far cry from the company's previous devices, many of which fall into budget phone territory. Featuring an Android skin filled with beautiful lock screen and home screen skins, the Grand Memo takes full advantage of its large 5.7-inch screen. However, unlike the Galaxy Note II, this device lacks a stylus for taking notes. Measuring 6.3 x 3.3 x 0.33 inches and said to weigh about 6.6 ounces, this is one beast of a handset. And there's a monster-size 3200 mAh battery inside, too.

4. Huawei Ascend Mate (6.1 inches)

Huawei's Ascend Mate doesn't just push the envelope in terms of display size, it also boasts a humongous 4050 mAh battery that's rated to last a full two days of regular use. The 6.1-inch 720p screen isn't full HD but leaves plenty of room for the Floating Windows feature, which allows multiple applications to run on the screen at once. Add in a quad-core CPU and 8-MP HDR camera and you have a pretty powerful phablet.

5. Samsung Galaxy Note II (5.5 inches)

Samsung blazed the trail for phablet phones with the 5.3-inch Galaxy Note and pushed the envelope even further with the Samsung Galaxy Note II, a 5.5-inch monster phone. Packing a 1.6-GHz Exynos processor, excellent split-screen multitasking and improved pen features, the Note II has it all. Despite offering a bigger screen, the Note II is thinner and narrower than the original.

6. LG Optimus G Pro (5.5 inches)

New Picture 68

The LG Optimus G Pro boasts a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, providing plenty of room for movie watching, gaming and productivity. Powered by a 1.7-GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU and 2GB of RAM, the LG Optimus G Pro offers blazing fast performance. And with a ton of proprietary apps, such as QSlide, QMemo and QRemote, the Optimus G Pro has plenty of great features. Measuring 5.8 x 3 x 0.37 inches and weighing 6.2 ounces, this phablet is definitely a handful.

7. Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 (5.5 inches)

New Picture 69

Lenovo didn't want the IdeaPhone K900 to be just another smartphone with a large screen, so the company packed this device with a ton of processing power. This phone doesn't just have 1080p display and a 13 megapixel camera, it's also the first smartphone with a 2-GHz Intel Clover Trail processor. The handset is surprisingly light and thin, weighing just 5.7 ounces and measuring 6.2 x 3 x 0.27 inches. Unfortunately, it looks like this phablet won't make it to the United States.

8. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (7 inches)

New Picture 70

There are smartphones that have inched larger to become tablets and there are tablets have gain smartphone functionality. The 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 [more here] falls in the later camp, as it's a next-generation tablet that can make  phone calls. The large display provides plenty of app real estate, but the specs aren't pushing any envelopes: this mega-device only has a 1024 x 600-pixel display and a 1.2-GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM.
