There's no disputing the fact that the oil industry is a wealth-making machine, and that the colossal amounts of money it generates have helped power some of the world's richest regimes and corporation. But this gives rise to an equally colossal problem: there are also other people or entities who wants a piece of the pie - and they’ll do anything to get their share. Every year, it is estimated that a total of US$133 billion worth of fuels are illegally stolen, adulterated, or defrauded from legit oil and gas enterprises.
