All-electric motorcycles have been around for a while now. But Mission Motorcycles is taking the fun, eco-friendly concept to the next level. The new Mission RS (“Race Special”) is being dubbed as the fastest all-electric production motorcycle ever made.

This is not your normal all-electric motorcycle. In fact, it’s a “superbike” that boasts a 160-horsepower electric engine that generates 133.4 ft-lbs of torque. The powerhouse bike can do zero to 60 in a mere 3 seconds and has a top speed of “150+” mph. The bike can be fully charged in roughly two hours and deliver a driving range of 200 miles.

Mission Motors has been toying with the superbike concept for several years. Back in 2011, the prototype Mission R was entered into the TTXGP race at Laguna Seca, where it dominated the race and finished 39.98 seconds ahead of the competition.

The San Fransisco–based company has gone through a few setbacks in getting its street-legal version to market. With production delays and changes to the company’s business model (from direct consumer sales to selling EV components to other manufacturers), the Mission RS has been delayed. But, despite the setbacks Mission Motorcycles continued with its goal of delivering a high-end electric motorcycle for the consumer market.

As a marketing promotion, Mission Motorcycles recently released a shadowed silhouette image of its new motorcycle…to tease potential enthusiasts. The tagline on the image simply stated, “The most advanced production motorcycle in existence. The highest performing street-legal electric vehicle ever made.” As you can see, a bit more has now been released.

Wired recently had the opportunity to speak with Mark Seeger, the president of Mission Motorcycles. He gave a hint of what riders could expect from the upcoming bike. “We want this to be the best of the best,” Seeger said. “Something really exclusive.”

Seeger went on to mention the relationship between Mission Motors and Mission Motorcycles. “There’s a lot of symbiosis there, as implied by the name,” Seeger said. “But Mission Motorcycles is focusing on the bikes. It just happens that we’re buying [Mission Motors'] powertrains and they’re customizing it for us.”

The Mission RS is not only a powerful racing bike, but it also features some cutting-edge technology. It offers a seven-inch touchscreen that is powered by the Mission OS. The display will offer riders everything from fun and important metrics to navigation.
