Did you know there are 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 ways to scramble the 54 colored squares on a Rubik’s Cube? So how do those record-holding geniuses manage to solve them so quickly? As Mike Boyd discovered, there are some clever tricks you can use that take less than a day to learn.
There are a series of algorithms you can memorize that help you strategically work towards solving a Rubik’s Cube, instead of randomly spinning it until things start to line up. But it also requires a good amount of muscle memory, which means you’ll need to practice until you’re sick of those brightly colored cubes.
These techniques won’t help you set a new Guinness World Record, though. It will just help you solve a Rubik’s Cube in less than two minutes which is still an impressive feat. If you want to get your time down to mere seconds, you’ll probably need to dedicate the next few years of your life to that goal - not just a day.
