Amid the beating of war drums in the Middle East and the protracted Euro crisis, the Gaza war and the continuing Israeli atrocities seem no longer front page news. Perhaps it suits Israel and its western allies, but the horrifying humanitarian crisis in Gaza should never be wiped off from human consciousness.
The Israeli attack on Gaza yesterday is but the latest in a series of prolonged atrocities. The Arab world remains paralysed by its internal divisions and conflicting positions in the current Syria and Iran crises, while western leaders have expressed their horror – ostensibly and hypocritically, it must be added - at the brutality of the war. Amnesty International has called for an investigation into alleged Israeli war crimes in Gaza, but its treatment of the Gaza crisis – and of Muslim nations in general - have never been impartial. But all this have made, and will make, no difference to the Israeli government's position.
The view of the images below of the impact of the latest Israeli attack on the Gazans has become too recurrent for human comfort, yet there seems to be nothing anybody can do about it.
