Time-lapse photography has become much more popular in recent years. With improved technology for high quality exposures, improved gear for smooth panning and other tricks of the trade, time-lapse has become an incredible art form. Many photographers focus on landscapes while other turn their eye to urban scenes. No matter the subject, time-lapse has the potential for truly jaw-dropping videos.

Enjoy the videos below. They will completely make your day, maybe even your whole week. For some of them, they might even make your whole year!

1. Louie Schwartzberg's Time-Lapse Photography Celebrates Nature, Beauty and Gratitude

Louie Schwartzberg's Time-Lapse Photography Celebrates Nature, Beauty and Gratitude. From the TED page: "Nature’s beauty can be easily missed - but not through Louie Schwartzberg’s lens. 2. Most Amazing Time-Lapse Video of Milky Way Ever Made. Seriously.

Most Amazing Time Lapse Video of Milky Way Ever Made. Seriously. I was blown away by this video of the Milky Way, and it's on my "watch this when your brain is fried" list. I think it might be one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen - on par with the video at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium of the Kiroshio Sea. Click through to watch what is probably the most lovely thing you'll see all day, if not all year.

3. One-Year Time-Lapse of a Bike Decomposing On a NYC Street

One-Year Time-Lapse of a Bike Decomposing On a NYC Street. What happens when you chain a bike - loaded up with bells and baskets and all the trimmings - to a pole on a busy SoHo street in NYC, and then leave it there for a year? Life-Cycle is just such an experiment by Red Peak. They photographed the bike every day for 365 days to see what would happen. Interestingly, the bike stayed intact for quite awhile. But as soon as a few bits and pieces started disappearing, the rest of the bike was not long for this world.

4. 15 months of a forest's life shown in 3-minute time-lapse

15 months of a forest's life shown in 3-minute time-lapse. This. Is. Awesome. Photographer Samuel Orr took photos out of the window of his house for 15 months, then put the accumulated 40,000 photographs into this amazing time-lapse video.

5. Time-Lapse Train Journey Travels Through the Four Seasons

9. San Francisco Time-Lapse Video Shows The City Without Any People

San Francisco Time-Lapse Video Shows The City Without Any People. For some reason, looking at the infrastructure we've built sitting there without us makes it all the more incredible. Having people disappear gives us a chance to marvel at what we've done to change a natural landscape into something unnatural, to wonder at the innovation and effort behind building a city of this size, and to consider what it might be like if we actually did just....vanish.

10. Stunning Time-Lapse Video Shows Landscapes of "Midnight Sun" Natural Phenomenon

Stunning Time-Lapse Video Shows Landscapes of "Midnight Sun" Natural Phenomenon. Norwegian photographer and filmmaker Terje Sørgjerd might be one of my very favourite artists. He's got quite the reputation for producing phenomenal time-lapse videos, such as this one of the milky way. He's done it again with this video of the days before the Arctic's famed "Midnight sun."

11. Gorgeous Time-Lapse Video of Oregon's Starry Night Sky

Gorgeous Time Lapse Video of Oregon's Starry Night Sky. In an interview with EcoSalon, photographer Ben Canales notes, "We were inspired to make this film because of the personal experiences our team has individually had in Oregon. But, we would be honoured to have the opportunity to capture and showcase the unique beauty of other regions through our cameras. Hopefully films like this will inspire and excite others to go beyond their normal routines and see some of the beautiful regions beyond their own backyards."

12. Five Hours of Airplane Landings in 30-Second Time-Lapse

Five Hours of Airplane Landings in 30-Second Timelapse. Cy Kuckenbaker states, "With an even blue background it’s fairly easy to key out each airplane and put them together. The bridge in this shot is an added time lapse under the 1st Street bridge in San Diego. I was really surprised by two things: the number of planes that landed in 4 hours (close to 70) and the dominance of Southwest Air."
