Social media is ubiquitous and permeates all aspects of our lives. So it’s no surprise that it also rears its head in court proceedings. That’s the reason legal seminars focused on understanding and using social media evidence in court have become so prevalent: lawyers want to learn all they can about this important topic.

Because this is such a timely topic, we recently hosted a webinar on the top social media concerns for lawyers and their clients. During the webinar, attorney and social media evidence consultant, Scott Malouf, discussed everything lawyers need to know about about using social media evidence in court, including the practicalities and ethical issues.

Because this is a topic in high demand, we decided to collaborate with Scott to create an infographic on this very issue to highlight important, need-to-know data on how social media is affecting court cases and how lawyers can use this knowledge to provide better representation to their clients.

For example, did you know that there are over 83 million fake profiles on Facebook and 20 million fake profiles on Twitter? Did you know the first prosecution based on a user’s tweets occurred in 2009? Or that online interactions on the social media platform, Campfire, played a part in the record-breaking verdict obtained by Hulk Hogan against Gawker?

For more interesting statistics about lawyers and social media, check out the infographic below.
